Total users are huge now.

There are many websites out there that pull data from the fediverse. So take that with a grain of salt. But anecdotally I am seeing a small rise in people using the various platforms as each get more mature and servers somewhat stabilize.

    Reddit is killing itself. It really didn’t have to do anything but let X & Insta & TikTok feed into it. It has a better structure for daily use that isn’t quite so toxic.

    But instead they are letting Mods go crazy, Admin-bots that blow up your account with no explanation, user-bots that spam rage bait & other low effort LLM slop, and so on. It’s a dying platform that should be thriving. The first place people find after searching “Less toxic Reddit” is fediverse, so of course it’s growing.

      Oh and for some reason shoehorning in games? A product that tries to be everything becomes nothing.

    I for one would like to community to stay as it is – small, but with a more meaningful discussion, similiar to hackernews. Lemmy and the wider Fediverse should be a reliable contender to the commercial platforms, and people like us who want an alternative.

      I think it would benefit from growing - the volume of content & discussion it just too small to support niche topics. If you want to talk about things other than the top ~30 topics, you will be waiting days for any form of response.

    I found Lemmy through grapheneos! That’s my story. Love it.

    If I hadn’t smashed my iPhone in a work related accident I would never know the joy of ditching reddit and joining you folks.

    Hoping it’s true, generally when I see posts about how strong and successful something is, it hits like a warning sign that it’s struggling / at risk and someone is trying to project growth for attraction / retention.

    I assume I’m not the only one with this kind of mental filter. Maybe there’s a way to go about it that would get the impression across without ringing that alarm?

    Maybe a show don’t tell kind of tact? Like “check out all this new content being generated by the influx of users”… or a backhanded thing like “here’s how to protect your insrance against recent traffic surges”?

    Idk I’m no expert. Hope it’s helpful but otherwise just ignore me~

      I wish there was a website that had like three major aggregators instead of just the one. The issue I come across is these sites all have something missing. For the fediverse observer, they sometimes do retro activity that doesn’t pop up until you look at the graph again.

      What I can tell you anecdotally is i am seeing a lot more engagement with content faces are sticking around last couple of months. So I pulled the numbers from the aggregator that I know at least lets you audit the numbers. But its still not perfect.

      There is just so much you can do as a human even with multiple accounts. So unless you’re daily driving 50 accounts somehow and most others got nothing better to do as well, I still count that as a positive trend.

            Becauase mastodon works poorly for lemmy, lemmy works bad for mastodon, loops works bad for lemmy and mastodon. Actually, I have four accounts because I wanted an account on mastodon exclusively for images.

      Yeah, I’m new (also driven from Reddit after the recent changes) and within like a week I signed up for three different servers, and I’ll probably sign up for more if I can figure out how to navigate servers well enough to find what I’m looking for.

      It’s actually rather nice to have separate accounts for different use cases and not mix, say, a memery and general discussion account with an art account.

      True, same for me. But I have been for quite a while and I’m not creating new ones. I’m guessing legit users don’t need many accounts, so I’d be more concerned about botting.

    First fediverse site I encountered was moving train radio, a podcast that cited Israeli war crimes in every horrific detail for hours.

    It should be played in every church service in North America every week.
