Honestly as skeptical as I am of electoralism in most cases, Lula actually does seem like the rare case of an actual lesser evil candidate unlike with most capitalist countries where the lesser evil is still obviously controlled opposition. However I am not very educated on Brazil so I could be completely wrong here.

What’s wrong with Dilma Rousseff (Lula’s former successor)? She was illegally[1] ousted and everyone pretends like she’s dead.

        1. Maybe it was technically legal, IDK. But I do know that it’s widely recognized as a having been a partisan hack job ↩︎

She’s unpopular because of the usual propaganda, being a woman, and the aforementioned coup. She’s also not a great public speaker.

Plus she has a cool gig being president of the BRICS bank, don’t ruin this for her.

So Dilma suffered a permanent aura loss from her coup but Lula didn’t suffer one from being jailed (in the very same scandal) because he simply has more charisma?

She lost aura because, along with Lula, she was the scapegoat of the delayed consequences of the 08 crisis, and a corruption scandal and color revolution style campaign. The coup is just a continuation of that. Lula kept his popularity because, along with being charismatic, his first two terms were legendary and took a lot of people out of poverty.

Dilma was the coolest MFer to ever be elected though. Former Marxist-Leninist guerilla fighter, tortured for days and didn’t say shit. The dictatorship pigs called her shit like “The Joan of Arc of subvertion”. Here’s the dope picture from when she was arrested. Note the judges hiding their faces

I like her too. I was dating a Brazilian comrade when Dilma was in office, and she told me how tough Dilma was. It’s BS that a colour revolution took her out of consideration.

He’s been doing standard demsuckery of not doing shit and stiffling leftist policy but I like Brazilian grandaddy, at least the Amazon isn’t going to be converted to a resort. And yeah, Bolsonaro is demonic and Lula is very much not that.

Small miracle after how hard USA pushed Bolsonaro and all the recent fascist victories in LatAm. Sadly, he won’t learn anything from it yet again. Succdems gonna succ.

So what comes next? AFAIK Lula is going to be up against a reactionary legislature? Will he be able to get anything passed? Will he be able to defang the fash and the evangelicals?

And the guy is 80. Are there signs of him preparing a successor?

    • The Supreme Court will be largely appointed by him, so there he has some leverage. If Lula really wants to do his best government like he said yesterday in a speech after the election, the only way would be to leverage mobilization of the masses, but to be honest he didn’t do it in this last 4 years, so I doubt he will do it in the next 4, at the end of the day he has been more and more liberal and conciliatory as time goes by.

The good news is that we have the opportunity of a lifetime right now, Jones Manoel, openly communist, openly Marxist-Leninist, won for Federal Deputy in the state of Pernambuco, he won there in second place with 249,077 votes, only behind a guy with 261,555 votes.

That might not seem that impressive, but he alone got double the votes of Samara Martins, the candidate for presidency from Hoxhaist UP. This is impressive from someone that is so open about communism and revolution. And according to him in his latest video yesterday about the future of the Brasilian left, he gained 700k followers on Instagram alone during this election, he’s already one of the most talked about politicians in this country right now on social media, and he knows very well the need to take this opportunity to further radicalize the populace.

The good thing is that he’s not even the only ML elected, in Rio Grande do Sul, another ML, Humberto Matos was elected as State Deputy/State Representative with 40,122 votes. He was nowhere near the top, but still really impressive.

There’s already a lot of organic engagement of people wanting Jones to run for presidency in 2030, and that is also something he has expressed wanting to do if he can, and I truly believe he has a winning chance if he does, but for that reality to come we need to take this opportunity. He already proved his thesis that the internet cannot be ignored like so many communists here claim is a waste of time, as if selling newspaper is the only thing you can do.
