I know there isn’t any visible platform or coherent ideology, but I was hoping there would be something more than ‘not trump.’ like where are the donations even going? They couldn’t even pretend to have talking points.

They get on TV and tell you everyday. Kill people trying to cross the border, beat the homeless to death if they won’t allow themselves to be dragged off to internment camps, send bombs to Israel, finding the most tenuous marine ecosystems and building offshore drilling rigs there.

It started with COVID but now the Dems have fully committed to Wile E. Coyotism: There is no platform, but everything* will be fine as long as no one questions or thinks about anything.

*May not apply to the poor, minorities, or people concerned with more than 3 seconds from now

Like how is this a strategy? It feels like previous presidents had platforms on their websites, right? I know they’re banking on ‘not trump’ but come on. I think it’s just that psychic damage is hitting me now.

I just don’t get what it is that has people defending him. The randos coming here and acting like we’re unreasonable for not wanting to support a genocider. I wanted to know if they had anything tangible to hold onto besides what we can see out the window.

You don’t get it because you’re probably a materialist, not an idealist. If you look at Biden through the idealist lens of “think of all the things he might do!” it makes a lot more sense. Ignoring the reality of what he has done and is doing makes looking at the unlimited box of possibilities much easier.

OP - I don’t know if you’re curious at all I bet you could find archived versions of his 2020 platform.

    -–

I’m so old that I remember waaaaay back to the 2020 race when Biden and dems really lied and really pretended to give a shit. Now it’s only “Vote or Trump”.

For his 2020 race - Biden’s website actually had page after page of policy stuff with details. I read his “justice” page. I found a rant on my PC about it.

    My rant

Some earnest lib posted an actual tweet with a screen grab of Biden’s website with text mentioned ending cash bail.

Joe Biden’s Criminal Justice Policy - dead link joebiden.com/justice/

End cash bail: Cash bail is the modern-day debtors’ prison. The cash bail system incarcerates people who are presumed innocent. And, it disproportionately harms low-income individuals. Biden will lead a national effort to end cash bail and reform our pretrial system by putting in place, instead, a system that is fair and does not inject further discrimination or bias into the process.

The moment I saw the words: “end cash bail” - I knew Biden’s “progressive” stuff was at least 99.5+% lies. And the following is pure PR bullshit…

Stop jailing people for being too poor to pay fines and fees: Some people end up unable to escape our justice system because of the very fines and fees that the system levies. Biden will use the grantmaking power of the federal government to incentivize the end of policies that incarcerate people for failing to pay fines and fees. He’ll also target policies to revoke driver’s licenses for unpaid parking or speeding tickets. And, he’ll help individuals incarcerated for six months or longer get a true fresh start by incentivizing states to wipe clean any outstanding traffic fines or fees that would prevent them from obtaining a license. These license-related reforms will not apply to licenses revoked for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, or other serious driving violations.

If you believe that - I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

Establish an independent Task Force on Prosecutorial Discretion.

That - I believe. I’m certain the task force will generate all kinds of reports and studies. And then the reports and studies can be ignored.

For the following I think Biden will make no efforts at all. And I think they effectively have a zero percent chance of happening…

    • Eliminate mandatory minimums

    • Decriminalize the use of cannabis and automatically expunge all prior cannabis use convictions

    • Eliminate the death penalty

    • End the criminalization of poverty

    • End cash bail

    • Stop jailing people for being too poor to pay fines and fees

    • Stop corporations from profiteering off of incarceration.

    • Ensure humane prison conditions

    • Set a national goal of ensuring 100% of formerly incarcerated individuals have housing upon reentry.

“End the criminalization of poverty”? That’s the most ridiculous thing on the page. Biden won’t even try to do that.

“Stop corporations from profiteering off of incarceration”? Biden will not do that in any way, shape, or form. Give me a fucking break!

“Ensure humane prison conditions” including “[fixing] environmental health problems in prisons, such as a lack of clean water and clean air.” Is that a joke?

Minuscule efforts might be made on the following…

    • End all incarceration for drug use alone and instead divert individuals to drug courts and treatment

    • Invest $1 billion per year in juvenile justice reform.

    • End the school to prison pipeline by focusing on prevention.

    • Give children a true second chance by protecting juvenile records.

This may surprise the average non-voting Hexbear but shockingly most political candidates/nominees don’t keep the Issues pages of their campaign websites active outside of election seasons.

Here’s an archived version of his site on November 1st, 2020. As a courtesy, I’ve gone ahead and directly linked you to his issues page (hint: 99% of them are unfulfilled but that’s not what you’re asking): https://web.archive.org/web/20201101000826/https://joebiden.com/joes-vision/#
