both of them are going bald, and seem not to accept it but in very different ways.

I mean, Doug shaves his head

jokes aside I’ve never watched the critic

Doug seemed to have embraced the cringe and he seems genuinely more happy now with his crew just doing cringe silly stuff for his critic videos. While he also does some more serious reviews that is just him talking to the camera without the critic stuff.

the nerd has just been in a downfall. im not into the lolcow hate watchers he has but it’s just apparent that he doesn’t give a damn and just wants to do minimal work on his videos as much as possible so i stopped watching.

Yea, 5 years ago he did improve a lot and seemed to have returned back to a more detailed videos (like his earthbound and polybius ones) but then he gave up again because whatever. I still find weird that there are people out there angry that he doesn’t act like he did back when he was 25.

He made more serious reviews when he was 25. He’s actually more cringe and “angry” now than he was then. Watch an old episode, you actually get some genuine opinions and experiences from him and Mike Matei in the script. New episodes are written by some new writers and James supposedly plays the game and then does all the acting/editing which is backwards to how he should have done it: he shouldn’t have outsourced the main creative aspect. The positive reviews he does occasionally now like Majora’s Mask, EaethBound, etc. are better because he’s mostly not fishing for contrived excuses to say “this game sucks diarrhea dog turds” over and over.

i don’t think they are mad about it, they’re just shitty people that want to have some fun by bullying someone they have a vendetta against for ‘taking what they liked away’. as far as i know james rolfe aside from that bizarre behind the scenes he did doesn’t respond or being much of a lolcow so they’re just boxing shadows. to me his channel trajectory is just sad to think about but i just don’t care enough and whatever works for him is fine by me.

Literally everyone I knew had a low quality digital camera. Most people either had some sort of MP3 player, with the post people having iPods.

God I got so much book reading done when on mass transit.

Those digital cameras were still outpacing early smartphones. I would say all the way up to the mid 10’s. Anything taken with a smartphone camera from 2008 until like 2013 looks pretty bad, especially in low light.

      • I remember my family ditching their film cameras in favor of a digital camera I got as a gift when I was a child… The camera had 3.2 megapixels and now all our pictures from back then look like ass.

Can’t blame them though… Developing and printing film was such a large expense and hassle to go through.

Ya I lived through the 80s, 90s, and naughts. I never had a film camera, just because I never had enough disposable income to get film developed. Because of economic inequalities, cameras were often something that dads had.

I have IRL friends now who do the film camera thing cuz they’re arty. Honestly I don’t mind, but it’s not a cheap hobby.

Yeah, I grew up at a time when point-and-shoot film cameras were cheap enough that each household had one, but we often had so save for months and let film rolls accumulate in a drawer until we managed to go develop them (all of my family is so adhd it’s not even funny). I remember the development being really cheap, but printing the pictures was where the labs took you for a ride. When we got a film camera that had the tech to produce a test strip and select pictures before printing them we were so relieved.

I do the film camera thing because it forces me to be more aware of when I take pictures and of what/whom… I like the feel of the clunky mechanical cameras, and my dad left me a Soviet-made SLR that’s a workhorse. It’s also nice to have physical objects that jog your memory, instead of thousands of pictures I forget exist until I go looking for something on my phone. It is pretty expensive though. I’ll go for months without taking pictures until I have enough to get by and spend on film and development.

The Change the Channel thing or the abuse?

      CW: Suicide and SA

As far as I know Jewario killed himself in 2014 after being fired because heremovedd someone in 2013 and was fired from CA, iirc, he had a history of sexual harassment and the CA staff covered up, or didn’t bother doing much.

As for the Change the Channel people, in the end Linkara and a lot of them ended up revealing themselfs as very unlikable people with huge egos. A lot of what they said was true and Doug lost credibility (also because Doug killed the nostalgia critic in some of his shitty movies, only for later on to ressurect the character).

Nowadays Doug mostly retired all characters except for the Critic (I think the Hobo Reviews was fucking up with his voice) and he continues to make his cringe reviews, and he seems to know they’re very cringe but he seems happy making them (at least a lot more happier than James who feels like he’s being forced at gun point to make AVGN).

Doug lost a lot of credibility, but enough people still watch his slop so he’s still doing it, just without a stable of other content creators orbiting him and being abused.
