did they scramble its signal to bring it down? is iran running drone jammers we don’t know about?
if they got lucky and it’s not that, it’s still really bad for the US, iran will definitely get a lot out of stripping this thing down and seeing what makes it tick
otoh, if they DO have effective drone jamming… the US military makes up for the shortfall of trained pilots (a problem of expense and scarcity of talent) by using these things en masse… if that’s no longer reliable then strike missions will increasingly have to be flown by pilots we don’t have, at cost and maximum risk to loss of assets and loss of life (because you never send one piloted aircraft, but you nearly always send one and only one drone)

Years ago they jammed one of the US’ stealth drones and landed it safely on their airfield to study and reverse engineer. Iran is very capable of jamming drones.

I don’t know, but I do know some military aircraft have expected service lives measured in decades, and that it’s common to keep them around decades longer than expected.
I just can’t imagine it having super up to date technological secrets but i guess even old vehicles get retrofitted with new shit
Good point. I’m sure the F-15s the U.S. is flying today have been upgraded quite a bit from the 70s.
I’m thinking if someone had been able to take down F-15s in, say, 1995, the U.S. probably wouldn’t still be using them, or at least not using them in the same way.
Iran’s airforce is one of its weakest points, so perhaps for that reason this could be somewhat helpful to them.

Found these photos on twitter. Quite certain it’s not AI, the consistency of the landscape and features between photos is too close (scorch marks below rear left vertical fin and above left wing, large rock below left wing at base, front left panel damage etc)
It does look more severely damaged from these photos however, not buying the “hack” just yet

What are the odds that that they just tried logging into it and it worked. Like, gotta be higher than 5% right. There is a non zero probability that thr army had it set up for ease of use and didn’t think any one else would try to just use it.
