It was just about wanting to enjoy youtube slop with less risk of getting milkshake ducked… not trying to prop up youtubers up as the vanguard of the revolution.
Of course this created an audience which the same youtube algorithm and incentives ran their course to simultaneosly radicalize (in the sense of needing increasingly hotter takes to stand out) and subsume what critique existed.
While breadtubers are usually bad the youtube landscape in general has improved from what it was back when any given video was a coinflip as to whether is would promote white replacement cospiracies… I think? tbh nowdays I only watch youtube videos by rss or hexbear links so I dunno.
