they OWN them, too. like arent on mortgages.

also, once your home is paid off, no property taxes. you never owe another penny on it except for maintenance

There’s a time limit of how long you get to own it, but it’s going to last past your lifetime anyways and how many people are living in generational homes? A leasehold land going back to the government also means new development to fit the new requirements of the city can be done in the future. (Not to mention this would prevent companies from holding large swath of lands forever and eventually become bigger than god)

It’s just so frustrating, I don’t know how more people aren’t full on outraged about this all the time. In my country, with my income, I will never be able to afford my own home, but I could afford a decent apartment after about 5 years of saving up and a loan in China. I just…how can anyone be ok with this? I’m in my 30s and I only know a single couple who own their own home. Every other person I know my own age is renting, or even couchsurfing. I guess that’s why our ruling class blasts “China bad” 24/7, because literally every problem our society has has already been solved by China.

AND ownership in the USA actually means having a mortgage and giving the bank a lien on the asset which they can then use to collateralize lending 10x more money, which expands the money supply for bidding wars to continue driving up home inflation.

And then you realize that China doesn’t even have property taxes on homes!

I mean yea thats basically it. Anytime you tell someone that an issue in america is a solved problem in China, they just recite one of the hundreds of propaganda points they’ve been fed

my partner and i make what would be a crazy amount of money anywhere else in the country but new york city and we will never be able to afford a home here… ever.

we’re saving up while we have this income and plan to move somewhere in the midwest or south to buy a house one day

  • homeownership rates in AES states compared to capitalist states is fucking crazy, and it’s so obviously an indicator of less precarity and more equity in AES for workers.

so it never gets discussed in capitalist countries.
