New bombshell reporting by Wired reveals an incident in which the testing of an experimental GPS jammer resulted in a medical plane crashing into the side of a mountain.
at least three other planes reported navigation disruptions due to the GPS jamming
Especially “funny” because in
there’s a talking point about how reckless and evil Russia is for endangering air traffic with their anti-drone GPS jammersbombshell reporting
:kelly:
It’s the first known instance where military GPS jamming played a role in downing a civilian plane in US airspace
Can you count all of the qualifiers?
The Guinness World Record method of writing
Would be cool to explode out all permutations of this where the US military used GPS jamming to down a civilian plane outside of the us, downed a civilian plane inside the US without jamming, etc. etc.
list of flexible phrases (with some other options to explore in the permutations):
-known instance (swept-under-the-rug instance, unverified instance)
-military (paramilitary, police, civilian)
-GPS jamming (EMP, communications jamming)
-played a role (did, caused, was behind, happened close to)
-downing (exploding, grounding, disappearing)
-civilian plane (terrorist-linked plane, unknown plane, plane claimed to be civilain by [insert enemy country])
-in US airspace (in the world, over this specific mountain range, in civilian airspace)
I like the combination:
‘It’s the first unverified instance where paramilitary EMP happened close to an exploding terrorist-linked plane above the Mississippi River’
or the simple removal of most of it, which the writers hope you imagine when you read it:
‘It’s the first instance where US GPS jamming happened close to a non-combatant plane’
played a role
GPS jammer-involved plane downing
They sound like they’re talking about an rc car going off some stairs
This feels like one of those stories that would have animated a really juicy vein of conspiracy theories and angry crankery 30 years ago but in 2026 will be forgotten by next week at the latest
It falls into that “leftist conspiracy theory” bucket, where the facts of the case aren’t really even in dispute. The GPS jamming was plainly a major contributing factor to the crash. The attitude seems to be “oh well, military exercises are just a fact of life, and civilians need to fucking watch out in case they get caught in the crossfire”. It’s a totally analogous situation to the 2025 Potomac River mid-air collision - why the fuck does the US military just get to do whatever the fuck it wants to do, even if it obviously endangers people?
And I just gotta specifically call out the General Aviation pilots and their bootlicker comments on reddit about how pilots are trained to navigate without GPS, and the pilot should have aborted the landing approach. And yeah, in retrospect the pilot should have… but this was a medevac flight, and so the pilot is in the position of potentially sacrificing the life of the patient they were flying out to pick up.
There’s an obvious counter-factual: what if the military didn’t jam GPS that night. Hell, it’s not like the government didn’t know their flight plan, how about just turning off the jammers for a couple of hours?? But the concept of a government working for the people on stuff like that is alien to Americans.
fema maybe doing [?something???]
military actually killing peopleAnd the same people that would’ve run with that arc years ago will now support this government and military vehemently, while going off on some tangent about all history being a lie and putting their trust in AI

Ah, so is this why they closed that area down a few months ago?
futurism.com
I guess this is western futurism now.
Ever since 90’s actually. The “end of history” and “ultimate” victory for liberalism turned all western futurism into dystopian trashcan in mere few years.
Very true, before the “end of history” there were definitely a lot more attempts at envisioning better future.
“Accidentally”?
Murder is murder. There was no due process, just a sanctioned hit with poor or no intelligence
They could test that shit in Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait. But nothing of value could possibly be lost in a domestic test.
