My weekly preamble is in spoiler tags below.
preamble
The last week has been quite a busy one for world energy markets. The first big piece was the reveal that the US is removing sanctions on Russian fuel exports until April 2027. This has been yet another fascinating collision of the Ukraine and Iran Wars, and, of course, another example of all the complicated situations that countries that are otherwise geopolitically aligned can get themselves into, as obviously Russia being allowed to export more diesel does bend the curve on shortages to a degree. China “helping” the West by reducing their demand for foreign oil purchases for much of this year as they drew from their enormous domestic oil reserves is another example of this kind of dynamic. Given how much Russia has helped Iran - especially now, with large increases of Caspian Sea vessels helping Iran mitigate some of the blockade’s impact - I don’t view this as a betrayal, but more of a unfortunately necessary geopolitical tactic, particularly if increased Russian state revenue lets them defeat the NATO-backed forces they’re fighting a bit easier. Regardless, it would be very unfortunate if most of Russia’s diesel went directly to the US and not to other struggling countries (not least among them, Cuba), as that would give the US a bit more road to kick the can down.
Ukraine has not taken this news well. It can be hard to figure out to what degree Trump is using kayfabe in any particular situation, but Ukraine immediately striking a Russian diesel export station (to which Russia retaliated by knocking out power throughout much of Kiev) seems to have genuinely annoyed him, e.g. saying that Ukraine should get a new leader. He also tried his classic move of willing a ceasefire into existence purely by social media decree. This worked during the Twelve Day War, but not here - at least not yet. I’m currently cautiously disregarding rumors that the US is going to actually take away intelligence or material support from Ukraine. It’s not impossible, and would actually be another data point in the trend of the US withdrawing from Europe (with their bombers evacuating their UK base very recently too), but this antagonization of Russia has been a plot in the making for over a decade, and I would be surprised if Trump was allowed by the powers that be to interrupt this plan in any meaningful way. Perhaps there will be some largely symbolic move instead.
Over in West Asia, Ansarallah is tidying up their encirclement of Taiz, with the noose tightening around PLC forces. The Saudi counteroffensive was very Ukrainian; i.e. it existed mostly as a media phenomenon, but somehow even more half-hearted. Their sole territorial acquisition up to me writing this is 10-20 miles of largely empty coastal plains and an airstrip that Ansarallah, without an airforce, has no real use of. In return for Saudi bombing, Ansarallah has continued hitting oil infrastructure, and additionally escalated by striking terminals at King Khalid airport. Ansarallah gave several warnings to immediately evacuate everybody inside, and the Saudis did not even bother to sound the alarm of an incoming missile, which is emblematic of their desperation to maintain the illusion of the pre-war status quo. The strike on Terminal 3 killed about a dozen people and injured a few hundred. While Saudi airlines are trying to maintain operations, several Western airliners are pausing flights for now, which mirrors the air blockade that the Saudis have forced on Yemen for several years. Meanwhile, Iran has escalated strikes on tankers both inside the Strait of Hormuz and far outside it, as it truly starts to slam the hammer down on what limited illegal transits were making it through. This comes in the form of both missile/drone strikes and naval mines and will keep physical oil prices elevated well into the short and medium terms if maintained. Additionally, the US continues its reported buildup of forces for another try at striking Iran, possibly before the midterms, but I sincerely don’t know what they could possibly hope to achieve beyond trying to get more votes from chest-thumping jingoistic morons while yet further degrading their position in the region militarily and economically.
Meanwhile, over in Southeast Asia, air pollution has dramatically increased over the past few months due to manmade wildfires in Indonesian forests and peatlands, which were caused by profit-seeking slash-and-burn farmers clearing land with fire, and then further exacerbated by one of the worst El Ninos on record. This bourgeois idiocy has caused untold environmental damage, hundreds of thousands of cases of respiratory illnesses throughout Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore, prolonged closures of major institutions like schools, and required the distribution of oxygen cylinders throughout parts of the populace to try and keep them alive and at least vaguely healthy.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don’t want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. UK Fuel Price update
https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/fuel-prices/fuel-watch/
Fuel Price/L (pence) Price (motorway services) Since February Petrol 174.79 194.29 +42.1 Diesel 199.90 215.86 +57.7 Russia is taking full advantage of Ukraine being cut off from the US Space Force’s Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS), an early warning system that tracks ballistic missiles from launch/boost phase through their heat signature, tracking the flight path of the ballistic missile, providing cues for ballistic missile defence systems, and impact point/zone prediction, along with Ukraine being cut off from other sources of space based intelligence and enablers.
Russia launched a large scale, multi layered ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv to maximize their advantage, launching a large number of Zircon powered Maneuverable Re-entry Vehicle (MaRV) equipped ballistic missiles at the city, a record high number (24) for the war of their most advanced ballistic missile being used. Iskander-M Short Range Ballistic Missiles (SRBMs) were also used, along with P-800 Oniks-M ramjet powered supersonic missiles, lofted on a ballistic trajectory for the initial phase of flight, before descending to very low altitude, as low as 10m above the surface, in the final phase of flight at supersonic speeds (Mach 2-3). RM-48U ballistic missiles, modified 48N6 missiles from the S-300/400 air defence system for ground attack, were also used. Numbers according to AMK Mapping’s translation and compilation of Ukrainian and Russian telegrams:
- 24x Zircon powered MaRV equipped ballistic missiles
- 7x Iskander-M SRBMs
- 6x Oniks-M supersonic ramjet powered missiles
- 3x RM-48U ballistic missiles.
That’s around 8 900kg/20 000lbs of ordinance based on reported warhead weights (125kg Zircon, 500kg Iskander-M, 300kg Oniks, 200kg RM-48U).
(On a side note, someone please inform AMK Mapping that the Zircon is not a hypersonic scramjet powered cruise missile but rather a ballistic missile with a solid rocket motor integrated into the MaRV, it’s why Zircon launches get confused with Iskander-M in his initial data, both are ballistic).
Kyiv was attacked from multiple angles according to the map provided in the post by AMK Mapping, with surface to surface launchers repositioned as far north as Bryansk to launch Zircon MaRVs from unexpected angles, with a few still being launched from Rostov oblast. Ukraine would’ve been unaware of this due to being cut off from US space based intelligence (satellites). This is important as you usually want to orient the fire control radars of your ballistic missile defence systems (PATRIOT in Ukraine’s case) towards the main “threat axis”, (in this case Bryansk) to maximize detection range and intercept chance. Ukraine would’ve not been able to do this, because they didn’t know what direction the majority of missiles were coming from before launch.

The large amount of missiles used with active radar seekers initially designed for anti ship targeting (Zircon and Oniks-M, 30 missiles), suggests targets with high contrast on radar compared to the background, most likely power plants and related infrastructure for these 30 missiles.
Also, there are now speed limits on Starlink terminals used by Ukraine, meaning that Starlink currently can no longer be used to provide a 2 way datalink for human in the loop guidance and mid course alteration/correction for Ukrainian one way attack drones and cruise missiles. Ukraine will also be unaware of the precise location of Russian emitters (radars) for Russian air defence systems, as the US Space Force geilocates emitters in real time using satellites. This will heavily blunt Ukrainian drone and cruise missile attacks for the time being, providing relief to Russian oil refineries and datacenters.
Ukraine still remains highly dependent on US intelligence on both the defensive and attacking front in the air, and there is no replacement elsewhere, Europe lacks these capabilities.

Reports That Yemeni Missiles Have Destroyed ARMACO HQ In Dhahran An enormous explosion took place & smoke is rising over the area. Yemen’s armed forces previously warned civilians to evacuate and stay away from the area, following Saudi evacuation orders issued for an oil site in Sana’a.
Footage Of A Yemeni Ballistic Missile Striking ARAMCO HQ In Dhahran
Three missiles were fired, the other two targeted the airport & an ARAMCO facility in Riyadh.
Isn’t this the area Pakistan is supposed to be protecting with their Chinese made HQ-9BE (CH-SA-21) air defence systems? King Abdulaziz Air Base, where Pakistan is operating from, is around 7km from the ARAMCO facility. If hits are landed there, the Pakistani deployment is vulnerable to ballistic attack by Ansar Allah/Houthis in Yemen with their advanced ballistic missiles.
China needs to increase production of the HQ-9C with it’s hit to kill/kinetic interceptors with altitude control system/divert rocket motors to improve its ballistic missile defence capabilities as soon as possible, alongside the HQ-19 (THAAD equivalent) for multi layer defence. This technology is needed to intercept ballistics reliably, the last few years have proved that. (Still not hermetic, but better than the alternative). Anti ballistic capability is very important and coming to the forefront as maneuverable re entry vehicle technology proliferates globally.

The measures also include the expulsion of violent students and combating bullying.
Article
Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori announced on Monday, October 12, new rules of conduct that will govern the country’s public schools, including the expulsion of violent students , combating bullying, and prohibiting the use of makeup , long or dyed hair, and the presence of electronic devices in classrooms .
“Order is not only in the streets, it also has to return to our schools , to our classrooms,” Fujimori remarked when announcing that the new regulations will receive input from civil society before coming into effect.
The governor stressed that the intention is to " generate a debate ," because “violence among students, attacks against members of the educational community, and behaviors that endanger the integrity of our children and adolescents require a firm , timely, and responsible response.”
He explained that the measures include “proportional sanctions and reprimands with criteria of gradualism,” but that in the face of serious cases of violence, " expulsions of students return."
The governor stressed that the authorities will not “allow or accept bullying, violence, or sexual harassment” and asked students to report these cases to educational authorities “because that individual will immediately be turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police.”
" Makeup, nail polish, excessively long and dyed hair will not be allowed , and school skirts must be of an appropriate length ," she explained.
The minister specified that these latest measures will apply “to all public institutions” , while private institutions will be able to establish their own internal presentation rules .
The measures were announced after a wave of outrage swept the country on September 15 following the report of the allegedremoved of a 16-year-old student by his classmates while traveling on a school bus, after which a Lima court ordered four months of preventive detention for six teenagers.
All those involved were students of the Liceo Naval Almirante Guise school , which was administered by the Navy , and were interned in the Lima Juvenile Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Center, popularly known as Maranguita , in the district of San Miguel .
The case led to reports of other incidents of harassment and violence in schools across the country, as well as the alleged incidence of racism and classism at a school run by the Navy.
Following that, the Government ordered the reorganization of the Naval High School and handed its administration over to the Ministry of Education until next year, a measure that Chang assured is allowing the recovery of “order and discipline” in that center of studies.

The Samson theory of bullying: The bully’s power resides in their hair and cutting it off wil make them unable to harass other students.
“Order is not only in the streets, it also has to return to our schools , to our classrooms,“
Students bring Brasília, Capital of Brazil, to a standstill in a demonstration calling for a shift in votes in favor of Lula on the Esplanade of Ministries. The demonstration was organized through social media and the president was not present.
This is unthinkable in Brasília, a Bolsonaro stronghold; it’s been at least 10 years since the left managed to bring so many people to the streets there, and Lula isn’t even present. And the fight is happening all over Brazil; we need this activism, occupying public squares, streets, and shopping centers, talking to workers in every city to educate, politicize, and secure the votes needed to re-elect Lula.
(typing quickly because I’m at work and getting eyed)
If nothing else, this has been a great experience in organizing for a lot of young people. I’ve been orbiting an org for a couple of years, but only this past week I decided to take a go into organizing.
It was a bunch of activities happening simultaneously throughout the city, a total of around ten groups of ~5 people. The day comes but the first activities in the early morning, two or three of the groups, are not working out at all. A lot of people didn’t know what they were supposed to do or where to go, or that they were even supposed to be in a group discussing their activity.
The “coordinatos” or main organizers were blaming the people for not being organized enough and I immediately got possessed by a Bolshevik spirit.
I contacted a person in each group and tried to identify whoever was more the type to lead and coordinate stuff that day. I gathered the difficulties the morning groups were facing and tried to find solutions in the strengths of the other groups (for example, one group had three cars while another group had none; one had two tables and another had none etc.).
By the end of the morning we had then made a group chat to organize stuff, consisting of the local “leaders” of each group that I identified, the main coordinators and me. We quickly redistributed all people and resources and ended with larger groups, less places and very well defined activities. They all were a success in the afternoon, my group talked to so many people in just three hours. Two of the groups did have a problem of low public in their locations, but the structure we had organized made it possible for those larger groups of (potential) comrades to move from one place to another and set up wherever.
Me and two others of these leaders were included in the main coordination after this, hahaha.
This was absolutely a turning point in my political formation, and I bet a bunch of future comrades are feeling the same way.
Pro-Lula and Pro-Democracy Protest in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, the most right-wing state in Brazil;
Tomorrow, the first large scale anti-government protests will start in Colombia. They will initially be a one-day thing, probably to test strengths, but it will still be interesting to see how large they are, how the government reacts (they just put up a decree allowing for more force against protests) and if the protests take up steam on their own.
Finally. Seems like protests will start in Bolivia soon again, same as it’s happening in Brazil. I hope the left can topple or at least pressure this puppet presidents, these guy don’t seem powerful at all, their entire thing is that they have a lot of CIA support and money.
cia-now soft peddles anti ansarallah stuff, great sign of things to come (it’s actually quite sophisticated piece of propaganda, because it lies almost exclusively by omission, if you read it as average ngo-lib, your impression would be that: ansarallah are religious extremists fighting a civil war which makes situation worse for the simple people of yemen, some of whom are hoping for saudis strikes, who are double dealing with amerikkka (who are smolbeans passing-by), and the fault lies with government not building strong institutions, presumably by saleh)
https://www.democracynow.org/2026/10/13/houthis_strike_saudi
spoiler
very briefly, to get into who the Houthis are, they are a group that was initially created in the 1990s to oppose the rise of Salafi Muslims in the far north of Yemen
And I think that comparison does have some validity. And for people who don’t know Yemen well, it will give them an idea of what kind of group they are. They are extremely repressive. They are also very ideologically motivated. They’ve now, for 15 years or longer, been educating and forcing their ideology onto children throughout their school and education system, as well as adults
salafi muslims are smolbeans now without any support (why north of yemen? who knows, the climat. education is back as tool of brainwashing as well, just stellar stuff by implication
you know, the airstrikes at the moment by most Yemenis are considered airstrikes that are supporting them against the Houthis.
most yemenis are cheering air strikes by saudis wouldn’t you know it
And the Saudis are currently supporting the government, and they were — they are really in a very bad dilemma, because they know from previous experience — they did, you know, aerial bombing for seven years, and it got nowhere
aside from murdering a schoolbus full of children as a poignant moment, got nowhere
And you also remember that the humanitarian situation for Yemenis, in general, is absolutely disastrous.
is there some word on what saudis are enforcing? arcade? parade? ah, blockade. is there any connection to humanitarian situation? who knows.
…
would you upon reading this piece know that usa supplied targeting info for a decade to saudis? or that obama/trump/genocide joe have also killed yemeni civilians explicitly? would you know they have nearly bankrupted eilat port as the only country enforcing genocide convention?
I rate this regime change prop 8/10, needs some human touch, possibly egg monopolist losing their business, and that they are all drug users (like nazis)
y’know, not sure if it quite counts as full-scale civil war (man, CIA mouthpieces really love their full scales, no more half-wars waltuh
) when the non-Ansarallah factions kind of just pathetically fold on impact(and also the “rebels” already control most of the actually populated parts of the country)

Can’t wait for the Anarcho-NATO brigade to claim that South Yemen is still socialist or something.
Another same fucking story that libs will absolutely eat up. They crave someone cramming their mouths with unoriginal thoughts
I think there is a good chance that all of the “we will nuke Iran” shit is a diversion for a US ground invasion of Yemen.
The latter would be amazing to see.
For more, we’re joined by Helen Lackner, author of several books on Yemen, including Yemen in Crisis: The Road to War and Yemen: Poverty and Conflict. She’s been involved with Yemen for over 50 years and lived there for a total of more than 15 years between the '70s and the 2010s. Her next book on Yemen will be out next year. She’s joining us from Oxford, England.

That author is a total hack. Her entire career depends on the endless suffering of Yemeni civilians at the hands of the bloodthirsty Saudi regime. I hope she weeps on the day Ansarallah liberate Aden and put an end to the white liberal NGO industry leeching the entierty of West Asia.
while that true, cianow should be abolished as more pernicious of the bunch

I stole it from an actual book someone gave me https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Why_Nations_Fail
The CIA is actually pro-Ansarallah according to my own theory, lol. Same reason the US is not providing material support to Saudi Arabia: they are weaponizing China’s short term dependency on Middle Eastern oil to force them to help secure US hegemony there. Classic geopolitical jiu jitsu from the foreign policy blob.
nah, they just don’t want to look stupid, again. saudis are crawling with pentagon advisers, and refueling planes
The whole situation benefits the US though as long as it continues indefinitely. The US has Saudi to sell shit to and Saudi rely on US support, but it is in US interests not to support them to victory because if Saudi secured the region then they’d be in a stronger position for their relationship with the US etc etc etc.
The whole US machine benefits from total destabilisation of everywhere else.
it benefits hard material power of having oil, but fumbles financial power of dollars speed-of-circulation part (see treasury yields), which fucks financialized to shits material economy of usa social reproduction (eg. housing or data centers for stonk market).
If Saudi can’t sell oil, they have to dump US bonds.
If they dump US bonds, the US goes broke.
If the US doesn’t or cannot support Saudi Arabia, it will split into tribal society and government will dissolve.
If Saudi Arabia is not successfully supported, it cannot sell oil.
If it cannot sell oil, it cannot purchase expensive arms. Maybe the US can buy up the oil fields and mineral rights, but they won’t actually be able to collect without contributing militarily - and somehow winning.
$40 Trillion in debt.
WE’RE NOT BROKE! WE’RE NOT BROKE! WE’RE NOT BROKE!
