I knew somebody who always called the original Modern Warfare “Modern Warfare 4” because it said “Call of Duty 4” on the box and they got confused. If they still have that idiosyncrasy in their speech now all these years later, it will be interesting to see how they adapt to Modern Warfare 4 actually being a thing now.

Edit: I was going to complain about the Chopsticks ass 4 in the logo, but then I realized that it actually says 4 in Korean, 사 sa. Clever bit of graphic design wasted on a game like this!

Can’t wait for the POW mission gameplay where you have to press X to push the train for 1 hour in real time or else your character gets executed on the spot

Just to point out cause I don’t see anyone’s commented on it, they did the design for the number four to look like a vaguely Asian symbol (and I know ‘Asian symbol’ is a silly idea as Chinese characters and Korean characters are very distinctly different, but this symbol looks like it could be confused for either a Korean or Chinese character)

    EDIT: Oh and it’s yellow

I commented on it, the symbol literally is the Korean word for “four” (사) stylized to look like a 4. It’s a clever idea, but the stylization does make it look like a wonton/chopsticks font nonetheless, and it is yellow!

Yeah, it’s really fucking stupid. There’s the original modern warfare (which I actually kinda liked), and its two dogshit sequels.

Then, over a decade later, decided to make new modern warfare games, but with Roman numerals this time.

So now there’s Modern Warfare 2, and Modern Warfare II

      • IDK, Modern Warfare 2 had its merits, even if the multiplayer balance made me want to pull my hair out. I like how it concluded with the greater scope threat being a conspiracy by jingoistic hardliners within the USAF.

MW2 has really tight gameplay, it just feels really good to shoot at guys. I never playee MW2 multiplayer, so I can’t speak to that, but the campaign was pretty trash compared to the first one.

The first MW campaign was pretty grounded, sparing on set pieces, and at least… Skeptical, in a very lib sort of way, of US foreign policy. The Yanks get themselves blown up because they Jump into things recklessly. Trying to be the hero and saving the downed helicopter pilot dooms you all. Meanwhile, the Brit portion of the campaign is all about refined professionals, one of whom is literally named Soap, having to come in and clean up the American’s mess.

MW2 campaign is just… About an evil general who’s evil and also we retconned a bunch of stuff, and the Russian’s are invading the east coast of the US. It just has zero restraint or tact. The level where you have to fight in car-centric suburbia, between fast food restaurants, is absolutely hellish. It’s just not as fun. MW3 is even worse in this regard. Even more retconning, and less restraint. Obnoxious set pieces everywhere.

The latter MW games have really fun arcade mode called “spec ops” with self-contained missions, and a survival mode. When I go back to those games, I go back to that mode more than anything else
