If that tractor has the capacity for hydraulic implements it’s not particularly difficult to pull off. If you wanna get really lazy, I’ve watched someone skin a deer with compressed air, which I’d bet that machine shop has. It’s a bit disturbing, but damn, if it wasn’t the fastest I’ve seen someone skin one.
Thing is do the survivalist larpers actually know how to carry that out? Then also know how to butcher up the cow whilst hopefully not puncturing any of it’s intestines (cuss that’s an easy way to foul you’re meat). I always have skepticism on folks that makes these types of compound plans because they’re never based in any material reality of what it actually takes to grow and farm a crap ton of calories.
Valid Most of the folks I know with shops, tractors, and land tend to have been raised in that same environment and perpetuate that lifestyle when/if they’re able to do so. So much to say that in rural Missouri at least, people tend to have more access to the knowledge and skills to butcher meat (typically wild game) than they do to machine shops and tractors with hydraulics.
Truth, I have family and friends that know very well how to make do with much less equipment. Most people would understand the resources needed to fatten a single cow to slaughter let alone a herd all the while hoping there’s no complications during birthing and anything else (cows and horses are some of the most intentional self injuring animals around cuss they’re so damn curious). Larpers like this fantasize but then don’t realize why farm hands and laborers all look like they have a hunchback and bad knees by their forties.

Walled cities typically had fruit orchards and sometimes vegetable plots inside their walls. Everything else was grown outside (and for larger cities most vegetables and fruits too).

If you genuinely wanted this kind of vibe and had unlimited money, just move to a small but tight knit town with a dense downtown core, put up some walls, and then buy up all the shops and keep the people who work there employed but triple their salaries, and employ everybody else in the town with similarly paid jobs in random new stores for shit you want to exist there. Congrats, you’re now effectively a warlord with a private army and you have a pleasant town to live in, not some weird mcmansion fort with a vegetable garden that can maybe support a toddler.
This would require them being not completely paranoid about the poors stealing all their nice things and feeling like they’re being ripped off by paying the poors more than they’re worth. Being super rich poisons your mind and so they’ll be suckered in by meritocracy and protestant work ethic type stuff that makes them think people need to work non stop to deserve a decent life. So this type of idea, while resulting in a better outcome for them, would seem unappealing because they’d see it as just paying for everyone else to jerk around.

It’s bizarre that you’re right, because this is functionally how rich people always worked prior to capitalist brainworms. Rome, China, etc; hell fucking Al Capone worked this way! Warlords always made sure their guys and their families were paid, treated incredibly well, and made to feel invested in whatever enterprise and world they were building. You just need to follow that model and you’ll get Caesar’s Seventh Legion with all these people who would die for you because they know you’re gonna keep everybody they love on the payroll and eating good.
