Being an adult means I can eat half a bag of chips for dinner and nobody can stop me. I can even have nacho cheese from the can and what are you gonna do about it?

If we all lived in a big house, I would definitely be like “Eat some goddamn vegetables” and then shove a plate of roasted broccoli with Ceasar flavored breadcrumbs and a nice grilled tofu plank at you

I wouldn’t dream of a allowing someone else to ‘help’ me cook in a home setting unless they were also professionals. I cannot share a kitchen with civilians. I cook for my parents fairly often and they always wanna help, they’re interested and I am usually teaching them recipes or neat techniques when im cooking. Which is fine, get a drink, have a seat and ask what im doing, but stay the fuck out of the way and I don’t want help cutting veggies, this is my meal that im making that I’m trying to impress you with and I want to be responsible for every single element.

At work i think I’m pretty surly, but I have learned my surl comes off well over the course of my life. I pull off loveable curmudgeon well. Ive been described as ‘ridiculously charming’ by our bartender which struck me as weird cause I’m really sarcastic, but I think i sell it well and at the same time i got used go being really sincere with compliments around my friends cause…a lot of our mutual friends died within a 3 year span from a double whammy of fent mostly but covid sometimes. I tell my friends I love them all the damn time. Ive just kinda gotten used to that and so my work compliments are usually stronger than most even if I hyperbolize, I have for sure used the line ‘thank you so much, you are the wind beneath my wings’ or recently with the odyssey ‘Chris Nolan should have made a movie about you instesd’ and a constant singing ‘There gooooes my hero!’. Which gives me a LOOOOOT of leeway for when im grumpy. Cause I call out bullshit just as quick as I compliment. I am blunt I both regards but I think just saying exactly ehat the problem is and how to fix it is just the only way to operate at a fast pace. I wish we didn’t have a semi open kitchen so I could swear more. Swearing really cushions the blow cause you csn emphasize being casual that way, sounds like less of a big deal. “Yo, gotta refire X, this one shit the bed. (Explaining what’s wrong with it while) so if we dont fuck that up this time we’re good!” I can pull that off in a way thst makes criticism clear but come through smooth. It’s a tone of voice thing. I reallt turn on the east coast accent when calling orders

I’ve never worked in a professional kitchen (mainly because I enjoy cooking and i was always worried it would kill my love for it) but a lot of people assume I did

I just learned how to cook really good because my brother got really good at bartending and I wanted to show him up at something

Turns out when you learn proper techniques, someone trying to help you in the kitchen is like watching a sky-dancer flail its arms around, making a mess out of everything

It will kill your love for it to an extent. The pay sucks im an era where just getting by doesn’t exist anymore too. I gotta get out for many reasons but one is i dont have it in me to make decent food for myself too often after doing it all damn day and it sucks. You do get really reallt fucking good at cooking and wish you could apply it to your own life

  • Chip dinner is so cozy tbh, just grabbing a bag’o chippies and going to town while watching something you like. Bonus points if you open the bag, add chili flakes, choke the opening with your hand, shake it up, and have spicy chips
