She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a 2018–2020 reboot of a 1985 spinoff of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. This She-Ra reboot is known for very prominently featuring gay, lesbian, non-binary and other LGBT+ characters. It is a sword-and-planet superheroine / Western magical girl show about an adolescent named Adora who defects from the evil empire known as the Horde and gains the ability to transform into a superheroine named She-Ra. She now has to unite the various princesses of the planet Etheria in rebellion against the Horde.

“Protocol” — A spore storm traps the Horde trainees in the Woods and traps Adora in the Crystal Castle, where a damaged Light Hope is forced to reboot herself.

“Princess Scorpia” — Catra orders Scorpia to find Entrapta’s recordings so Hordak can perfect his experimental technology. Flutterina sows dissent in the squad.

The Amazing Digital Circus

The Amazing Digital Circus is a 2023–2026 adult independent animated series inspired by 1990s early 3D CGI edutainment games and “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream”. Six humans are trapped in cartoon avatars in a circus-themed VR simulation where an AI with a ringmaster avatar sends them on pointless nonsensical adventures to distract them from their plight, lest they go insane and “abstract”. It’s a controversial show — I understand it has its roots in millennial Newgrounds culture and this reflects in the oft-criticized writing style — but I’ve been enjoying it.

“They All Get Guns” — Armed with weapons, the gang engage in a deadly game while Pomni and Jax begin to bond, leading to a popularity contest hosted by Caine to crown the most beloved among them.

Daria

Daria is a 1997–2002 animated teen sitcom about the titular Daria Morgendorffer, a sarcastic cynic with a deadpan voice that reminds me of Maud Pie. This show is a spinoff of Beavis and Butthead, where Daria was a recurring character, but was made without the involvement of Mike Judge as he was busy making King of the Hill.

31 Minutos

31 Minutos is a 2003–2005 news parody puppet edutainment show from Chile, with a revival season in 2014. It’s known for its clever, absurdist style of humor, much of which will go out of your head without a cultural background in LatAm in general and Chile specifically. It has also been praised for its soundtrack and its handling of complex topics in a child-friendly manner.
