As a technology, Roblox is actually impressive, it’s not shitty Minecraft you can make some sophisticated stuff without a lot of work, the tooling is decent and can be learned by a beginner. Source: my kid plays it and has enlisted my help occasionally making stuff in the studio
If they’re young, keep a close eye on their activities, especially over discord. And you should definitely check out the several documentaries by People Make Games of child labor exploitation and grooming in Roblox dev.

The tooling is made to be usable by children so that makes sense. I think a big part of TikTok’s success has been the intensely superior mobile interface for multi-track video editing which has since been cloned by dozens of successful apps. It’s incredible what some clever design can do. Now if only we could get capitalists to stop using clever design to manipulate people we’d be set.
