Climate change threatens all human life on the planet and nothing is being done to prevent it

    “Oh no, the economy!”

I wish I could access the paper to complain about specific points and numbers. The fossil fuel industry is pulling in $1.5-4T profit annually.

Money isn’t real profit is theft and they’re killing our home

I hate capitalists’ inability to think long-term. You know what your profits are going to be when climate change wipes out every city on a coastline? When everything between Mississippi and Nevada is turned into a desert rivaling Death Valley? When there’s no fresh water and the lakes have dried up?

$0. Your profits will be zero and they will never recover. Whatever industry you’re in, it’s obsolete because the new economy is based on surviving in 125°F temperatures. Even food we grow now dissappears as none of it was cultivated for this environment.

Baffling they cling to a system that doesn’t allow them to avoid this because lines must go up each quarter.

Climate change is like if you get a 10% off coupon for all future burgers, but all those future burgers are way too overcooked and dry to enjoy.

i can’t fault the effort i guess, but my vibes are tingling n saying this is an absolutely wasted effort. Tying environmental damage to monetary damage in order to “hold polluters accountable” tells me that the absolute best that could happen is hefty fines levied at these companies. Fines that would then be fought in court for decades. meanwhile, nothing would change.

and that’s the “realistic” best case scenario brought to us by recent history.

i figure if a study is gonna try to put a “value” to something like this, when common sense tells us nothing will be done regardless? they should measure the “cost” to humanity. In lives, not monetary damage. Nothing will change anyway, so i would appreciate a study buildin a case for criminal charges.

TLDR: it isnt that criminal charges are more or less likely —as neither are— but at least a study building a criminal case would feel less fuckin cynical than this.

fines could work if they actually make continuing to pollute unprofitable and the fine money funds a bunch of remediation that isn’t profitable…

ok, so fines aren’t going to work, who wants to play minecraft?

right, i agree with ya. I’m just saying with full-throated confidence that even if they were levied? They definitely won’t do that. not what we’ve seen, when fines actually were levied.

So like, my opinion is: if they are gonna do a study assigning a specific amount of damage; but it’s just putting a giant number onta what everyone who’s paying attention already knows?

May as well put it in terms that matter to those folks like you n me, the only ones who actually give a shit.

fuck the moneymen, they don’t care, so couch study terms in real numbers for the folks that do. feel me?

Not quite. They’ll no longer be external when entire companies are held accountable for hundreds of thousands of counts of property damage, endangerment, poisoning, manslaughter, etc.

Until then, we’re still on their neolib bullshit.
