The post asserts that the women pictured are so unattractive that it has turned their republican husband’s gay.
The implication being that women are to be valued primarily by their physical appearance and a man is to be judged by the appearance of his wife.
Lemmy lets this slide because they are republicans and therefore acceptable targets, but they are bad people not because they are unattractive or they married someone unattractive/low-status, they are bad people because they voted for an administration which has done enormous harm to minorities, LGBTQ folks and anyone who drowned indirectly on USAID.
That’s not even getting into the problems with the conversation therapy-esque idea of being able to intentionally change an adults sexuality

We are justifiably angry at Republicans like this because they are enthusiastically a part of the boot that we are being crushed beneath. However, there is a distinction between wanting to be free of the boot, and wanting to be the boot.
It feels cathartic to be mean to people like this, and let’s be real, this level of unkindness is but a fraction of the cruelty they inflict upon us. However, this path does not lead to justice. I don’t want to be like them — not even a little bit.

People. They’re people. Objectionable people with grotesque views, but people nonetheless.
No they’re not. People have empathy. They care for others. They care for other people.
These are ghouls. They don’t care for anyone but themselves and money. They aren’t people. They’re a waste of oxygen.
Empathy is the most important part of a person. those people either never had it, or chosen to get rid of it. the reason they look like souless gohuls is because in some very significant aspects, they are.
I don’t doubt they hold ghoulish views, but it has nothing to do with their appearance. They look like older women fetishizing a revolting idol while subscribed to white supremacist ideals about youth and beauty. Describing them as “things” is dehumanizing in a similar way as they would likely dehumanize us. The more ideologically revolting members of our species are still people.
fash should be dehumanized though. they aren’t people. they are way beyond the paradox of tolerance. accepting them is unacceptable. I’m and way shape or form. everyone in the picture isn’t deserving the air they breathe.
Dehumanization is a core mechanism of fascism. It’s not possible to eradicate fascism by using its tools. Your statement also stands in stark contrast with your position that empathy is the most important part of a person.
The problem is, we’re all capable of atrocities, even if some are much more easily convinced to participate than others. It’s an uncomfortable truth of being human. But we have the choice to attack the parts which are actually contemptible - their words and actions. Alienating people based on their physical appearance equally alienates the people who perceive themselves to have a physical similarity, even when they hold entirely opposite views. That collateral damage is neither necessary nor desirable.

Body shaming is bad, but accepting this is the opposite of body positivity. MAGA women are body shamed to look like that. it’s actually sad.
Yea, the Mar-a-Largo face. I think its uncanny, but very evocative of the conservative mindset. I agree that it shouldn’t be normalised, though it doesn’t seem to me like the women in this meme have had those paticular procedures done.

yhea, I will agree that body shaming is bad. and it won’t prevent the reasons people get mody dysmorphia. just that those are the most hateful human beings on the planet, and they openly want me removed from the nation and rip my daughters away. so I genuinely do not care for their feelings. the world would be a much better place with them not in it.
I get that. To me, empathy is a ressource. If you put it into every little thing, you’ll eventually run out. I dont think you have to feel sorry for them. Understanding why theyre so fucked up and hateful can put things into perspective, but it doesn’t excuse their actions.

The meme is attacking their appearance, and only their appearance, because they are women. I dont really believe in this “looks reflect the soul” stuff. Some people are the absolute sweetest, yet dont meet societal beauty standards. Some people are shit, yet are considered attractive.
I dont know if you’ve read some comments in this thread, but there’s multiple calling them men. Since they aren’t beautiful, they have their womanhood stripped away from them.

That’s fair I haven’t been reading the whole comment thread. There’s definitely plenty of meat on the meme bone for jokes about the ugliness of the maga aesthetic without it degrading into misogyny, but it’s too bad people are acting that way.
“Ugly” as an insult does more damage when it’s aimed at a person who was taught their only value in the whole world was how cute they look, regardless of gender. It just happens that the majority of people who were taught that from birth were women.
Nobody does beauty and the beast with an ugly chick and a cute guy without explicitly trying to undermine the ideal of beauty as intrinsically the sole function of a woman. Men get to be primarily funny, sweet, handy, clever, etc, with handsome as a potential secondary add-on; women generally need to be beautiful, with any other characteristics being the secondary add-on.
And we’re not taking about things you can choose, like hygiene and smoking status. Just looks. A woman who’s kind but ugly always turns into a beautiful swan at the end of the male fantasy story.
If you call someone an inbred thickhead it hits about the same. If you call someone a slimey booger it hits about the same. If you call someone a useless empty ghoul it hits about the same. But you gotta know visual insults like ugly have broader social context.
And to be clear. A HUGE amount of this problem is intensified and maintained by the billion dollar beauty industry, which LOVES insecurity. It’s working hard to monetize men too! But it’s still a work in progress there.

These women chose to wear a specific type of outfit, a specific type of makeup, dye their hair a specific way, and get specific cosmetic surgeries to fit into the toxic world they live in. They choose to look like this. It’s a uniform. Nobody is making fun of their bone structure, bodies, etc. They’re making fun of choices they made aesthetically that comedically also reflect the toxic and ugly nature of their politics. The character flaws that led to those choices also led many of them to have shallow marriages of convenience. That is what I saw as the joke of the meme.
